 Eulama is the second oldest literary agency in Italy. It is also one of the
most dynamic and successful. The company was founded in 1962 by Harald Kahnemann
and Karin von Prellwitz, who had emigrated to Argentina from their homes in
Germany two decades earlier. Eulama is short for European Latin American
Agency. The second part of the name comes from the country where the company
was first set up.The Agency is now Europe based, but it still keeps a
close working relationship with the most authoritative Latin American
publishers.
Since 1964 the head office of the Agency has moved from Montevideo to Rome,
from where we operate worldwide, primarily in English, German, Italian, Spanish
and Portuguese speaking areas. We promote the cultural exchange among these
linguistic areas and between these areas and the rest of the world,
particularly Eastern countries of notable commercial interest as China, Japan
and Korea. We negotiate and license literary rights, serializations,
permissions, audio, film and co-production rights on behalf of our clients all
over the world. We monitor production-related activities of licensees, we
collect payments due and we research, if necessary, financial solvency and
business history of potential licensees. Rights We License
We deal with both fiction and non-fiction, commercial and literary. Our
focus is on authors and publishers with international appeal, selling
rights worldwide.
Our outlook is open: to various genres, controversial opinions, and new
voices. Our experience of dealing directly with publishers in all continents
has enabled the successful marketing of our clients' works throughout the
world. We bring to our clients a qualified and dedicated team which has emerged in the last 30 years as one of the major licensing agencies based in Italy. Our Structure
It structures in four areas:
- the management, dealing with public relations and planning promotional strategies;
- the readership, examining books, manuscripts, press and catalogues, selecting publishers whom books are offered to;
- the correspondence department in the six Agency’s languages: English, French, German, Italian, Hungarian and Spanish;
- the royalty department, dealing with the proceeds of license contracts.
